Mac's Redmond: 10/25 - Meeting and Greeting

Hey There! It's me, Red! Let me tell you all about this thing
called "Meeting and Greeting"
So, as I've told you previously, I've been a really busy pup these past few weeks. One thing I've been doing a lot of is "Meeting and Greeting". This means I get to be introduced and hang out with new people and other pups. Who knew both people and pups came in so many different sizes?? I sure didn't. But I was really good with everyone- peeps and pups!

Here are some photos of me at a canine event this past weekend called Chesapeake Bark in the Park:
Interesting looking pup...Must...say...hello...
I love this meeting and greeting thing...
especially with my greyhound friends!
(I'm in the middle with the teal bandanna)
Is that a stroller for dogs??
I wonder if those come in greyhound sizes...
Some of my new greyhound friends with their stylish coats!
Maybe I'll have one of my own some day
(Psst..I look greyt in Red)
I've also been doing some meeting and greeting closer to my foster home. Here I am with some of my canine neighbors:
Oh, what do we have here?
No worries, I've checked it out...definitely a pup!

Well folks, that's all for now. I'll catch you later.
More tales (tails) from retirement coming soon!

Mac's Redmond: 10/24 - Toys, Friends and Naps!

Hey Friends! Redmond here. Long time no see!

Don't worry, I haven't been snoozing the
whole time I've been away!
I've been so busy since my last post, I haven't been able to pop in and say hello. I do apologize for being MIA, but no worries, I'm going to tell you all about what I've been up to while I was away.

In retirement there are these things called "Toys". I had no idea what these were just a few short weeks ago, but now I realize I've been missing out on something greyt! I can't believe I've lived two whole years without these things!
There's no escape now, blue stuffy!!
When you're all tired out from playing, it helps to take your
toys with you to your crate for a quick power nap...
...They even make for a greyt place to rest one's head!
Another greyt thing about retirement is having your friends over for sleepovers. Now at the track everyday was a sleepover with all the pups, but the retirement variety of sleepover is way better. This past weekend, we got to host another greyhound. His name is Oyster and he's also a foster pup like me. He looks like me, and is also two years old. We could be twins! He got a nice getaway and change of scene, and I got to compare notes on retired life. Here are a few photos of what we got up to:
Lounging around...I'm the one with the Star Wars blanket
Here we are helping with groceries
Check out Oyster's awesome bat ears!
If you'll notice, I too have an interesting ear-style in this photo.

I've also discovered the importance of naps. I never gave them much thought before, but I now realize they are a necessary part of every healthy retired greyhound lifestyle. I can nap anytime, anywhere, anyhow! Check it out:

Bed and Rug! Two for the price of one!

Hey Foster Mom! Stop with the photos already!
What's a pup gotta do to get some sleep around here!?
That's all for now! Stay tuned for a new post coming very soon!

Mac's Redmond: 10/10 - Walks, Walks, Walks!

Hello friends!
Redmond here with more Tales (tails?) from Retirement!

My foster family has been taking me on lots of walks. They say I'm a greyt walker, but need to learn a few manners while on leash to help me enjoy my walks even more. I'm working on walking next to my foster parents and being a gentleman/pup when other dogs come around to say hello. I've been told I'm doing a really good job and have made real progress in only a few days. I don't see why anyone would be surprised...I'm a smart pup!

I'm also working on my pre-walk manners. I'm learning to wait patiently while my foster parents put on my martingale collar and leash and to not pull when we get out the door. That last bit is a little difficult to remember because I just can't wait to get exploring! I can see why all this is important, though. Those leashes and stairs really make for a tripping hazard!

Come on Foster Bro!

I usually walk with my foster brother, but I've also been going on walks with another buddy, who is also a greyhound. And he looks just like me! He happens to be my neighbor at my foster family's house. A greyhound neighbor! What are the odds of that!? We've been having so much fun exploring the neighborhood together. He knows all the best spots and has really been showing me the ropes. It's way more fun walking with him than my foster brother who just wants to turn around and go home.

Just look at us! Two peas in a pod!

I'm a pup on a mission!
A Walkies Mission!
Anyway, that's all for now. Forever Family, I promise to keep working really hard on my leash skills so I can go on lots of walks with you. Better get your sneakers ready so we can pound the pavement together!

Catch ya later!

Mac's Redmond: 10/9 - Fun in the Sun!

Hey! It's just me, Red, popping in for a pup-date!

Hello folks! Redmond here. I haven't blogged in a few days. You were probably wondering what I've been up to. Where is that handsome pup? you were probably thinking to yourself. No worries! I've been really busy with my foster family and friends, but I haven't forgotten about all of you. I have so much to tell you about!

I know you missed this handsome face!

On Saturday morning, my foster family took me to a place called Yorktown. Apparently it's a pretty historic place. There is a beach, old buildings, and some shops and restaurants. There was even a festival going on with lots of people and loud noises and yummy smells. I was a champ with all of it! I got to meet lots of humans, both young and old. It was so wonderful to get all those pets and ear scratches! Of course, I had to thank those kind folks for all the attention they gave me. Since I can't give hugs, I was able to say thank you with the next best thing- a good, full bodied lean!

And that's not all! I didn't tell you the best part...I got to make friends with lots of other greyhounds! There were eight of us in all, and a small dog I was told is called a beagle. It was like a family reunion. I had no idea there were so many other retired hounds like me out there.

Here I am meeting some new greyhound buddies! That little
hound is called a beagle. Her mom jokes that she was a grey
once but shrunk in the dryer!

Wow! Even more friends to meet!
We got to go for a nice walk together, hang out by the beach, and then relax in the shade while our humans talked to other humans about the virtues of greyhounds. It was a greyt outing and the perfect day. Here, take a look:

Walking the streets of Historic Yorktown

Here I am with my new friends taking a short
break. We were watching a family of "deer".
To be honest, they looked like greyhounds.
We're probably related.
Here I am enjoying the sun and taking in the
sights by Yorktown Beach

Once we got back to my foster home, all I wanted was a good nap. That much excitement can really tire a pup out! I'm definitely not used to having so much fun. I can't wait until the day I find my Forever Family so we can go on adventures like this together!

😴 Dreaming of my Forever Family

Until next time!

Mac's Redmond: 10/5 - Look What I've Learned!

Hello Friends!

Red here! Welcome back to my blog. Since the last time I was here I've figured out I'm a champ at this retirement thing! I can't believe I ever had any doubts. What was I thinking?!

I've been learning so much in just the past few days, it's crazy! Just take a look at what I've been up to and tell me you're not proud of me:

Cuddling...Check!
Who needs a pillow when you've got
a human available?

Roaching...Check!
Success!
I'm even smiling for the camera!

Stairs...Check!
Gotta look before you leap...

So much progress, right? I've been told these are the skills human-folk love for their pups to have, so I am on it! I may not have given it my all at the track, but no worries, I'm giving it 110% in retirement. I've got my priorities straight: Racing off to my Forever Family!

Here are some more snaps of my handsome self:
Surveying the backyard

This thing is called a door. I now know I need to find one
of these things when it's time to do my business. Yet, here
I am still wearing this embarrassing belly band...

How can you say no to this face?

Until next time,
-Redmond 😘

Mac's Redmond: 10/3 - What Retirement Is All About...

Hi Everyone! It's me, Red, and I'm ready (see what I did there 😉) to get going with this learning about retirement thing. If you remember from my last post, I had no idea what "retirement" was, but good news, I'm starting to figure it out!

Retirement means:
Munching on gourmet meals!

Nom, nom, nom, nom

Learning about this thing called stairs...

I got this...
...Nope!

Exploring the world around me:

Can I check out your neighborhood, too?

Lounging with my Foster Brother:

I have no idea what my foster brother is doing...
I think they call it a "roach"?

But most importantly, retirement means being my handsome self and finding my forever family!

Are you my family?
(Quick, zoom on over to gegr.org and complete an application!)

Anyway, I'm going to go catch some zzz's and see if I can figure out that roach thing my foster brother was doing. I'll see you all next time!

Mac’s Redmond: 10/2 - I'm New Here...

Hi Everyone! My name is Mac's Redmond, but you can call me Redmond, or Red.

I'm new here. I'm two years old and have just started this thing called "retirement". I have no idea what "retirement" is, but I'm willing to give it a shot. I think it might turn out to be a good thing. I'm told I have a lot to learn about retirement while I'm at my foster home so I can be ready for my forever family. I can already see there is a lot to learn. I've had so many new experiences in just the few days since I left the track in West Virginia. I don't even know where to start! Oh, I know, how about with my picture:

I don't know about this whole retirement thing...
It's a good thing I'm so handsome!

So on Saturday, I made my way from West Virginia with some other retired pups. We rode in a bus and then a van and made our way to Maryland where a bunch of nice folks treated us like royalty. We got some food, a nice warm bath with some great exfoliation, and a mani and pedi. They even had a paparazzo who took our pictures! I could have stayed in that place forever! But alas, I was told I had to get in yet another van to get to my foster home. It was a long ride, but I'm great in the car so it was no biggie.

Here I am in the car on the way to my foster home.
Apparently I'm a really good passenger.

The day after I arrived in my foster home, I got to meet my foster brother. He's six years old and has been retired for two years. I'm sure he knows exactly what I'm going to need to learn. I'll have to remember to keep a close eye on him so I can pick up some useful tips!

After our meeting we went for a nice walk together. I think I really like walks. There is so much to see, but more importantly, so much to smell! I even got some time to explore the backyard. I can't even begin to tell you about all the interesting smells back there!

Here I am meeting my foster brother for the first time.
I hope he'll help show me the ropes.

Here we are checking out the scents in the backyard...
There is some good smelling stuff right here.

All that exploring can really tire a pup out!
It's a good thing I found the least comfortable bed in the place.
Am I doing this bed thing right??

Anyway, it was really nice meeting you, but I should probably get going now. I have lots more to learn! Stay tuned for more of my adventures in retirement!

-Redmond 😘
