Dorie (Volando Olvera): 8/30/22 - Roaching Queen and Toys

Hi everybody! It's me, Dorie, here again with more fun stuff about me. Have you ever seen a greyhound "roach" before? Well, let me bark, I'm pretty awesome at it!

First though, a picture of my pretty self just to remind you what a cutie pie puppy I am...

Just cute little ol' Dorie 😀

Now, back to the roaching stuff. Check it out!

That's a pretty good roach if you ask me!

And how about one showing my awesome form? Back legs a little to the left... front a little to the right... PERFECT!

I did mention I was the queen of this, right?

And let's not forget me being silly with toys. I LOVE to play with toys - especially my kitty toy that's my favorite right now!

What's that? You want to meet me? Just don't forget I need a couple of things - a fenced yard, and no small dogs/cats/bunnies/foxes/etc... Just go to www.GEGR.org and let them know you want to meet me!

I'll bark atcha again soon, okay?
Until then,
Love and greyhound kisses,
Dorie

Dorie (Volando Olvera): 8/22/22 Dorie Needs a Hand

Hi everyone! It's me, Dorie, again - and today I need your help. I need some help finding my forever family. I just know they're out there somewhere! So I'm going to take just a minute to remind you of a few of my finer points, and then tell you about my simple needs. And then? I need you to take a long look in your heart and your family and see if there's room for me in your family!

Okay, first up? Just a quick reminder of all the good stuff.

Here's a quick pic of me cooling off after a warm walk outside.

First off, I'm a super sweet pupper with my people (which is why I think you should become my people). I'm a cutie pie, know all my obedience skills, get along well with other medium and large dogs and do great with other greyhounds. You can find all my previous blog posts HERE which describe all this in greater detail.

So Dorie, you ask, if you're so perfect, why haven't you been adopted? Well, I have a bad relationship with small animals: small dogs, cats, bunnies, foxes, etc... and this makes me a little hard to walk, because I bark at those things and sometimes lunge toward them. So I need a fenced yard where I can just have my own space without having to bother with all the little critters!

Oh, did I mention that I love TOYS?

This is me playing with a fun squeaky toy!

So, do you have a fenced yard? No small animals in your house? Love sweet and loving greyhounds who will get along fine with your larger dog or greyhound(s) after a good introduction?

Then I'm your girl!

I've been in foster care since March of this year, and while Uncle Chris and Auntie Kate love me (and I love them), it's time for me to have my own home. Do you have room in your home and heart for a sweetie like me?

Just comment below if you do and we'll make it happen!

Thanks for listening!
Love and greyhound kisses,
Dorie

Dorie (Volando Olvera): 6/20/22 - Report Card!

Well hello there! It's me, Dorie, with another fun post about my cute self. I heard you might have been wondering a little more about me? Not a problem. I continue to polish up my skills here at Uncle Chris's house - and I'm not shy to say my grades are pretty darned good (with one teeny-tiny exception).

I am an *Excellent* sitter!
Obedience: A+

I am fantastic at Sit, Down, and Stay. I'm even starting to get the idea of Wait! When it's time for meals, or treats, or you just need me to pay attention for a moment or two? This is it. Did you see the picture above? Butt planted firmly on the floor, thank you very much! And here's one of me doing Down, which is what we do before my dish gets set down in the feeding stand...

And see how attentive I am? Good Down, Dorie!

Attachment to my People: A+

I love my people - right now Uncle Chris and Auntie Kate are my people (along with some friends who visit pretty often) - but I'm waiting patiently for my Forever People! I'm a leaner for love, and I love to curl up and just be close to you. This picture should help explain - that's me lying at Auntie Kate's feet by her chair. She shares a corner of her blankie with me and I snooze at her feet.

I might love the blankie a little, too!

Alone Training: A

I do really good all by myself in my crate when necessary. I get a frozen peanut-butter stuffed Kong when I go in the crate and I do fine for several hours.

Office Mate: A+++

This is one of my greatest skills. I have my own bed in Auntie Kate's office and I roach out all day long to show support while she is in video meetings. Think of how much you would like to look over from your meeting or horrible conference call and see this beside you...

No problem, we'll have those reports out by close of business today!

Eating, Sleeping, Potty, Etc: A

Just add a little water to my kibble to keep me from gobbling and I'm good. I sleep all night in the crate like a good girl. I stick to a regular schedule with my potties and have never had a single problem. This stuff is all easy 😀.

Small Animals: D-

This is the only thing keeping me from being the greyhound valedictorian and giving that awesome speech at graduation. Small dogs, cats, bunnies, foxes, and who knows what other small animals are just not my friends. I'm just never going to be friends with that 5lb teacup poodle who lives two doors down.

So that's how I'm doing here at Uncle Chris's house! Pretty darned good, overall, I think!

I look forward to meeting you and having you pet me soon!

Love and Greyhound Kisses,
Dorie

Dorie (Volando Olvera): 5/26/22 - Picnic Fun!

Oh. My. Gosh. I did something so much fun this past weekend? I just have to tell you about it!

I went to the Reunion Picnic for Greyt Expectations!

First? I laid down on my blankie under the shade tent. And I napped. Then? I went down to the water by the river (all fenced in) and crashed in the water for a while to cool off and enjoy the water. Then, I went back to my blankie and napped some more. There were other dogs running all over the place like crazy pups (all fenced). I got up and ran like 50 feet - then - you guessed it - went and napped some more.

This is me napping on my blankie in the shade!

Picnics tire this puppy out!

We all had a great time - you should have seen all the doggies having a great time running around! Thanks to absolutely everyone who made it such a fun day 😀

Oh, you didn't believe me about all the napping I did?

Snoozing away, thank you very much!

Do not disturb!

I hear we're going to meet soon! I'll see you then...

Love and Houndie Kisses,
Dorie

Dorie (Volando Olvera): 5/4/22 - Let's talk Skills!

Hi Everyone! It's me, Dorie, here again with more to talk about.

Everyone is good at something or things, right? Like basketball, for instance! Let me just woof, I'm not good at basketball - but I do have other talents!

First - LOVE. I'm really good at both getting and giving love. You can rub my tummy, my ears, or whatever.

Second? CUDDLING or NAPPING. See below for evidence...

Lying on Auntie Kate's feet with her blankie.

Next - OFFICE MATE. Oh boy am I good at this one! I sleep most of the day in Auntie Kate's office while she's on video meetings. The big poofy bed in her office is super!

ZZZzzzzzZZZzzz...

Next - OBEDIENCE. You betcha! I know SIT and DOWN, and I'm good at STAY, too.

Lastly - The only thing I'm not good at? Small dogs and cats - they're just a nope for me. And basketball 😀

How about you? What cool skills do you have?

Love and Nose Bumps,

Dorie

Dorie (Volando Olvera): 4/28 - Hi, I'm Dorie!

Hi Everyone! It's me, Dorie! I'm excited to meet you - and I have lots to tell you about me. But let's start with a cute picture, shall we?

Hi, I'm Dorie!

See how cute I am?

Want to know more? Let's see... I'm tall and lanky. I give kisses sometimes. I'm a cuddle-bug and a leaner! I love getting love from people and snuggling. All good stuff, right? The only thing I'm fussy about is other dogs - I don't get along with some of them, especially small ones. Cheese, however? I like a little piece of cheese now and then. And doggie cookies (Milkbones, those awesome Kirkland ones), bully sticks are a special treat, and maybe a little taste of your scrambled eggs? 😀

Me snuggling with my Duckie toy - I love toys

I like being out in the spring weather - these tulips were particularly pretty, kind of like me!

Sniff, sniff... Pretty!

Did I mention I like toys?

Next time we'll talk about some of my skills, okay? But for now, I'll be looking forward to meeting you!

Love and Greyhound Naps,
Dorie

Volando Olvera - 3/23 - Snowfall and Toy Time

Hi everyone:

Dog's head from the back
Check out my cute ears!
Thought you would all want to know what I've been up to during this wintery first week of spring. Even though it's cold, I really like the snow. Mr G and I went outside to play in it. I'm not afraid of the big loud plow trucks or the little plow that clears the bikepath either, event when it's close to me.

When it's too cold and blustery to go outside, I stay in and play with my toys. You can see my video below.

Bye for now. Talk soon,
Olvera

Volando Olvera - 3/20 - Mental Exercise

Hi everyone:

photo of dog's face
I reminded L that I promised you a video of my practicing my "touch" command and then she never delivered, so she made one today. Plus, she says that mental exercise is perfect for a day like today because the weather is so yucky outside.

Plus I thought I would share a photo of me on my bed cuddling with L as a bonus.

Hope you're safe and dry inside like I am. Enjoy my video!

Talk soon,
Olvera

Volando Olvera - 3/16 - Earning My Wings!

Hi everyone:

I've been having so many adventures recently. It's been sunnier, so we've gone on lots of long walks, which I like. I'm getting pretty good at walking on a leash now, even when squirrels and rabbits run by, although I saw deer for the first time today. They were exciting!

I'm also getting used to being in the house. I like chewing on my Kong or other toys. I also am getting along really well with Miss Thing and Mr. G. I don't have a lot of new things to report, but I thought you'd like to see some photos of what I've been up to.

Talk soon!
Olvera

Volando Olvera - 3/10 - Happy Birthday to Me!

Hi everyone:

dog lying on colorful bed with toy
Toys are fun!
I hope you've had a good week! I've been busy since we last checked in. I've gone on several long walks and also went to the pet supply store. Have I told you before how well I ride in the car? I'm really good, although sometimes Mr. G hogs all the space. I also like to meet new people when I'm out and about.

I'm also getting the hang of this being around the house thing. I like to explore different parts of the house to see what's happening. I've just discovered that there are toys around here, which are lots of fun.

L is also starting to teach me some cues to follow. We're starting with "touch," which is when I touch L's hand and then I get a treat. L took a video of me, but it's not very good, so she promises she'll take another one soon. I want all of you to see how smart I am.

I almost forgot one of the most exciting things that happened this week — I turned two years old on March 8! I had a fun time, but I'm really looking forward to celebrating my third birthday in my forever home. Maybe it's with you? If you're interested, don't forget to visit greytexpectations.org and fill out an application!

Talk soon!

Volando Olvera - 3/3 - Layover

Hi all:

I'm learning a lot during my time in my foster home, but L and J have told me that this is only a layover on my way to my furever home.

Since that's the case, I want you to know a couple things about me.
  • I'm a puppy! I turn two next week.
  • I love learning new things and exploring new places.
  • I've gone on some adventures and done really well.
  • I love to greet people I know with giant tail wags.
If I sound like the dog for you, won't you consider applying to adopt me?

Thanks!
Lennea

Volando Olvera - 2/23, Earning My Retirement Wings

Hi everyone!

dog standing behind gate with a happy expression
Trying to use my puppy smile
to speed up dinnertime
Today marks one week since I left Alabama on my way to retirement. I can't believe how much I have learned!

Even though I haven't lived in a house before, I've learned I really like it. There are lots of beds and interesting things to explore. I like toys too, but I always move them really fast so L can't get a picture of me with them. I don't want them to get away!

All day during the week, L and J have to go to work, so Mr. G and I stay in our crates. I'm good at that, but I'm mostly excited that it's the weekend now. I hope we will do some fun walks. Last weekend, we went to a lake, so I got to walk on a bridge and see lots of bikes and runners and stuff. I walk pretty well on a leash and am starting to learn not to chase all the squirrels because I never get to catch them anyway.

Maybe Miss Thing and I can work
together to speed up dinnertime
I am also really enjoying getting to know all the members of my new family. I like Mr. G of course, because I have always known a lot of greyhounds. However, L and J are introducing me to how greyt people can be. They give me lots of treats and brush me, which I really like and is making my coat soft. Now when I see them, my whole body wiggles because I am so excited. I am also getting to know that Miss Thing, the cat, is not that scary. I don't know if we're friends yet, but, as you can see from the picture, we do work together.

Ok, that's all for now. I'll catch you later.

Kisses,
Olvera

Volando Olvera: 2/17 - Smooth Landing

Hi everyone! I'm Volanda Olvera. I just got to Maryland from Birmingham, Alabama, and it was a long trip! I'm very glad to be resting now. I'm a pretty good rester, and I have already figured out dog beds.

I was a little nervous this morning when I was getting my bath and grooming, but by the time we got to my foster home, I was rested up and ready for anything. I met my foster brother, Mr. G, right away, and I think we're going to be friends. There was something that my foster mom, L, called snain (snow/hail) coming down when we went for a walk, but I didn't mind it.

I really wanted to meet the other dogs on the bike path and the squirrels, but L said we have to wait for that. (I'm not sure she'll ever let me meet the squirrels.) Even though the weather was bad, we saw some bicyclists and walkers, but I wasn't scared at all, even when the bikes were close to us.

Once we got home, I explored the whole house, including the bathtub, which made L laugh. I don't know why. I also met Miss Thing, who L says is a cat. I'm a little afraid of her, so I just let her sniff me until she goes away. Now I've had a busy day, and I'm tired, so I'm going to take a nap. I'll write more soon!

-Olvera

P.S. L says I should tell you that I rode in the car like a champ, and she would pick me for a road trip companion any time.
