Endo (Lee Endo): 8/11 - Medical Release

Endo has been medically released and started his first underwater treadmill session today.  We've been doing some stretching exercises here at the house as well as range of motion exercises but we want him to get the fullest use of his leg, post surgery, so to the treadmill it is!

Today he was massaged and stretched by the tech, given a laser treatment and had some time in the treadmill with a small amount of water, then he got about 3 minutes with the treadmill moving.  He wasn't too keen about it at first but went with the flow and got thru it.  He'll have a few more treatments soon.

Thought I'd include some photos.

Endo IS available for adoption thru Greyt Expectations Greyhound Rescue.  He is an all around very social and solid dog.  Endo will need to go to a home with at least a 6 foot fence as he may be able to jump a fence shorter than 6ft.  He's great with kids and other dogs and super house savvy.  He hasn't had a lot of experience with steps due to being casted but we are slowly working him on them.  His favorite things in life are his people and his food. Well...he also loves a good nap.

Let me show this lady my handsome ears

Oh that feels good!

Massage, massage, massage

Getting used to the treadmill

I'm so happy!  Can I have a treat now?!?!?

Endo (Lee Endo): 6/29 - I've Never Had a Bad Day

Hi All,

I wanted to share an update about Endo.  If you've kept up with his blogs you know he broke his leg while playing about 10 weeks ago.  He had surgery and was casted and did extremely well in recovery.  Never once did he complain having a cast or splint.  Never once did he complain having weekly bandage changes.  Never once did he have to be sedated for and splint changes.  Never once did he complain on the long car rides to and from the vets office. Never once has he met someone he hasn't wanted to make friends with.  Never once has anyone met him that didn't fall in love with him instantly.  Ever vet, every tech, every surgeon, every veterinary staff member that has interacted with him has remarked at what an amazing, sweet, friendly, joy filled, dog he is.

Someone recently said about him "He's never had a bad day" and it is the absolute perfect tag line for this wonder boy.

About 3 weeks ago we started noticing some changed in his incision from where the plate was implanted in his leg.  Then we noticed some small openings in the incision.  His vet and surgeon were both consulted and some cultures and xrays were taken just to be sure there was no infection.  He was placed on antibiotics as a precaution but the xrays and the cultures came back negative.  The skin around the plate was failing.  We tried some wound care but the skin was too thin and continued to fail.  Last Tuesday morning he saw the wonderful surgeon at MedVet and the plate was removed.  Fortunately the wound was able to be closed and his sutures come out in another 10 days.  The surgeon said the bone fusing was looking fantastic.  He is in another splint, which will get changed weekly until he is released for rehab.

Needless to say we were all very concerned and disappointed he had to have surgery again, but true to his personality he has handled everything thrown at him with a smile.  I cannot say enough wonderful things about him and his positive attitude about everything he's been thru.

Endo will be available for adoption thru Greyt Expectations Greyhound Rescue once he is thru the splint changes and soft bandaging, and finally rehab.  He will need to rebuild the muscle again once he's able to exercise.  In the meantime, he spends his days enjoying his naps and meals.  Please continue to follow his recovery and rehab here and watch for updates because as he becomes more mobile we will share his progress with everyone.

Endo (Lee Endo): 5/4 - Happily Healing

So a few weeks have passed since my last update so I thought I would jump on here while my foster mom is busy.

I am continuing to heal and all reports say everything is healing super well. I am out of the hard cast and into a softer splint.  I like it much better than the cast. It's lighter and I can move more freely.  My foster mom is not too happy that I am trying to get a little bouncy and she keeps saying I need to keep "four on the floor."  I'm not sure what that means I just know that I'm super happy and like to show everyone that happiness.  Keeping me occupied has been a bit of a challenge because I am feeling really good and want to move around more than my foster family would like.  So to keep my activity satisfied they take me outside onto the patio with them when the neighbors come over to visit.  I like this A LOT because everyone I meet is a friend.  I like to give them some good tail wags and a smile before I plant a soft kiss on them.  (Hehehe, it's my little covert plan just to smooch on people).  I like making them smile when I lean into them for more petting, everyone seems to like that and I've heard a few folks tell my foster mom they are going to sneak me home with them.  Foster mom is very protective of me though and would never let that happen.

I am enjoying my meal times and always clean my bowl.  I lost a bit of weight during my surgery and hospital stay so FoMom has been putting in some delightful additions to my food.  Last weigh in was 69lbs.

The hospital where I get my cast and bandage changes have taken great care of me. I love them and I love going to see them.  They always make sure my bandages are very dapper-looking when they get changed.  I am having another bandage change this week and I can't wait to see what new designs they come up with.  Here is a photo of my admirers...err... I mean the vet techs.

I'm looking forward to finding my forever home when all this is over.  I would probably do best in a home with a 6' fence or a home that exclusively leash walks.  I may have to be on some restricted activity for a while once adopted which means no heavy running in the yard or super long walks but as my endurance and muscles build up I will be able to do more regular activity.  I do have a few special requests for forever home candidates though...I like some super soft beds, I like to sleep on one right next to you on the floor at night, also I really like treats and have learned to take them very gently.

If you like kisses and snuggles, I'm your guy.  I'm tall, tan, and handsome too, so if that is a prerequisite then I'm a solid candidate.  Stay tuned for another update once Fomom is distracted. XOXOX Love, Endo

Endo (Lee Endo): 4/20 - Hi There!

Hi everyone, it's been a while since my last update.

No worries, I'm doing great; but I had a little accident.  While having some zoomies in the yard I stepped into a small hole, twisted my leg, and broke a small bone in my leg.  Again, don't worry, I'm tough and my foster home got me treatment immediately.  I had a small surgery to make sure everything in my leg was set perfectly, and I am in a cast until everything is healed up.  And let me tell you, they took me all the way to VA Tech to get the best care possible! I get my cast changed every week, and the staff at the hospital like to change it up with cute wrappings.  (Because I'm cute, it's important to keep that theme going).   have a few more weeks of cast changes and then a couple weeks of rehab to build up the muscles I haven't been using, and then I will be available for adoption.

I have been a perfect patient.  Everyone raves about how cooperative I am when they change my cast and bandages.  My foster home needs to keep me on limited activity and leash walks onlyl for right now but as long as they give me some attention during the day I have been satisfied to just rest and heal.

Please don't worry about me, I'm gonna be just fine.  I really just wanted you all to know that I've been around I'm just concentrating on healing up well so I can be the perfect addition to your family.

Endo (Lee Endo): 3/19 - Greetings & Salutations

Hello World, my name is Endo!

I went for a nature walk with some new greyhound friends today.  They showed me this awesome bird: it had super long legs (like me) but, get this, it can fly!  Foster mom said that they were egrets.

I can’t wait to visit more parks with my new family & meet more wildlife.
