Eddie (Royal Envoy): 08/21 - TOYS!!

Eddie (Royal Envoy):  08/20/21 - TOYS!!

Hello friends,

I am a reserved and gentle boy, so sometimes it takes me a little time to get comfortable and start to explore new things.  Well, Iā€™ve been with my foster mom for a few weeks now, and this week, I have been investigating the wonderful world of TOYS!!!

There are toys of all kinds - some are firm, some are flappy, some squeak, some grunt, some crinkle, and some do all of the above.   Foster mom has a HUGE basket filled with toys; there were so many that I decided to take a sampling.   I even figured out how to carry one in my mouth up and down the stairs - I was super proud of that.

Hanging with my new friends.

Here I am starting to play with them.  As you can see, Iā€™m very gentle.

Foster mom says she wonā€™t be surprised if she finds me tossing them in the air one day soon!

Until next time,

Eddie šŸ¾

Eddie (Royal Envoy): 08/21 - How do you spell Eddie? F-O-O-D-I-E

 Hello again friends,

There are lots of things to learn about in retirement, but one thing you donā€™t have to tell me twice is when itā€™s time to eat!

I learned quickly where Iā€™m fed at meal times.  Itā€™s hard because I get my bowl put down last, so I have to wait longer than ANYONE else in the house to eat. Foster mom says that if she doesnā€™t feed everyone in the order theyā€™re used to, chaos ensues with everyone going to the wrong bowl. So, I must be patient. Sighā€¦ So I wait and wait and wait and wait until she finally brings my bowl to me.  (Foster Mom here - he waits literally 10-15 seconds longer, tops.  #dogtime)

For the first few days, I was nervous and didnā€™t eat all my meals, but now I belong to the clean your plate club! Sometimes when FM is fixing our dinner, I go in for a quality control check. Gotta earn my keep around here after all!

Besides meals; there are other things I love:

1. Peanut butter šŸ„œ-omg so delicious

2. Soft food - FM gives my foster siblings their medicine rolled up in a little ball of canned food. I get some too, and it is amazing.

3. Cheese šŸ§€ - behold the power

4. Treats:  I especially enjoy dehydrated beef and turkey. I have learned to be gentle in taking them from my FMā€™s hand.

5. Two words: FROZEN KONG - FM puts a little kibble inside and then seals it up with either PB or soft food and freezes it.  I get it as a special treat when she leaves me in my crate. nom nom nom šŸ¤¤

I also sometimes lick the spoon after FM prepares my Kong.  I like to be helpful like that.

Foster mom calls them my peanut butter eyes.

I have been having some extra special food for the last few days.  Iā€™ve had some GI problems this past week, so FM is giving me something called a ā€œbland dietā€.  Bland?!  Anything but!  Home cooked for the win!

Ground beef and barley for my dinner?  If bad poops are wrong, I donā€™t want to be right!

Thatā€™s all for now.  Until next timeā€¦

Bon AppƩtit,

Eddie šŸ¾

Jake (Macā€™s Rebel): 8/19 - Iā€™m a Good Boy!!

Iā€™m doing so well in my foster home. I get along with 3 other greyhounds and am totally cool with hanging out with Snowey the cat. I love car rides, going for walks and helping around the house.

I really enjoy a little sunbathing.
Iā€™m also very good at relaxing indoors!!

Eddie (Royal Envoy): 8/16 - Sittinā€™ Pretty

 Hello again friends,

I hope you enjoyed your weekend. Personally, I could go for a little less heat and a little less rain. Itā€™s interfering with my sunbathing and walks.

Sometimes my foster mom pulls out the camera to take pictures of me.  Iā€™m not sure why, but it has something to do with ā€œsitā€.  She says Iā€™m a natural, but she has to be able to catch it at the right time and reward me, so I can learn to do it on command.  I donā€™t know what any of that means, but reward sounds a lot like treat šŸ¦“ to me, so I hope she can figure it out soon!

Foster mom, Iā€™m waiting sooooo patiently for dinner.  Why are you taking my picture?

Come on foster mom, youā€™re embarrassing me!

Well, if you say itā€™s because Iā€™m so handsome, then I guess one more is alright!

Thatā€™s all for today!  Wishing you all a good work week.  FYI - I donā€™t have a work week because I am RETIRED!!!!! Whoop whoop!!!!   (Foster mom said bragging about that on a Monday is not the best form, but Iā€™m a dog and donā€™t know better, so #sorrynotsorry.)

Until next time,

EddiešŸ¾

Eddie (Royal Envoy): 8/11 - Thereā€™s a New Kid in Town!

Hello friends,

Iā€™m sure youā€™ve seen me on the available dogs page on the GEGR website and wondered, ā€œwhy are there no posts about this guy? - heā€™s so handsome!ā€ (ok, I just threw that last part in, but I have been told itā€™s true).  Well, my foster momā€™s been kind of busy at work, so I decided to help her out and take matters into my own paws.

My name is Royal Envoy, but everyone calls me Eddie.   I just turned 2 in June, but my foster mom says Iā€™m so sweet and gentle, youā€™d never know I was just out of puppyhood.

This is me the day I arrived at my foster home.  I was

showing off my very best ears.

I came in with the other new dogs from West Virginia on July 24th, but Iā€™m not allowed to meet adopters yet.  Foster mom  (FM) said it had something to do with me having extra parts the other boys didnā€™t have. If I heard her right, FM said that I have to go to the vet to get tutored, and then Iā€™ll be ready to meet families.  I donā€™t know what the vet has to teach me before I can be adopted, but I visited them today and everyone was nice, so Iā€™m sure when I go back, it will be a good time.

I live in a two story house with my foster mom and 3 other greyhounds; we all get along really well.  I also have met several small dogs, and Iā€™ve been very gentle with them.

There are a lot of things to learn in a new home, but I am mastering the basics:

staying calm in my crate when FM leaves?   āœ…

learning to do the inside stairs all by myself?   āœ…

only going to the bathroom outside?  āœ…

I still have a lot to learn, but I have already discovered a few favorite times of day:

1.  Breakfast time  šŸ³

2.  Yard time šŸ”

3.  Snack time šŸ¦“

4.  Dinner time šŸ½

5.  Bedtime treat time  šŸ¦“

This is me with my foster sister, Gianna.  We look A LOT alike, but she is really tiny and my foster mom says Iā€™m ā€œa tall drink of waterā€.

Thatā€™s me on the left, and Gianna on the right.

And then we turned the ā€œawwww factorā€ way up!

Stay tuned!   Iā€™ll post more about my adventures in foster care, so you can see how Iā€™m progressing.

Until next time,

Eddie šŸ¾

Clay (L Clay): 8/12 - Super Dog!

I like to look outside FoMaā€™s big living room window and when I do I walk away appearing as SUPER DOG!!!

Wouldnā€™t you like ME as YOUR super hound?!

- Clay

Endo (Lee Endo): 8/11 - Medical Release

Endo has been medically released and started his first underwater treadmill session today.  We've been doing some stretching exercises here at the house as well as range of motion exercises but we want him to get the fullest use of his leg, post surgery, so to the treadmill it is!

Today he was massaged and stretched by the tech, given a laser treatment and had some time in the treadmill with a small amount of water, then he got about 3 minutes with the treadmill moving.  He wasn't too keen about it at first but went with the flow and got thru it.  He'll have a few more treatments soon.

Thought I'd include some photos.

Endo IS available for adoption thru Greyt Expectations Greyhound Rescue.  He is an all around very social and solid dog.  Endo will need to go to a home with at least a 6 foot fence as he may be able to jump a fence shorter than 6ft.  He's great with kids and other dogs and super house savvy.  He hasn't had a lot of experience with steps due to being casted but we are slowly working him on them.  His favorite things in life are his people and his food. Well...he also loves a good nap.

Let me show this lady my handsome ears

Oh that feels good!

Massage, massage, massage

Getting used to the treadmill

I'm so happy!  Can I have a treat now?!?!?

Jake (Macā€™s Rebel): 8/10 - Itā€™s My Birthday

 Hello there

My name is Jake and I am very excited because today is my birthday and Iā€™m six years old!! I will be celebrating later this evening with my foster family and an ice cream party.

My foster mom keeps telling me what a handsome boy I am. Do you agree?

Arwin (HKF Always Ready): 8/5 - A Quick Introduction

Hi Arwin here, just popped in to say hello. I am in my second week in my Foster home and I am enjoying retirement. Foster mom says Iā€™m a big old love bug. I ADORE humans. I am a super happy, confident boy. Sometimes I make silly faces.

I also enjoy a good toy party.

I'm a handsome boy, don't ya think. I'm doing really well leash walking.

Bye for now, Paws crossed I find my furever home.

Betty (JT's On the Beat): 8/4 - I Got Wet....

 Hello Hello!

Thanks for coming back to see my adventures!

Remember when I said I wanted to hold off getting wet?

Well, they did it anyways - just not in the big water bowl.
I got to go to a store where they can give us a bath! It was really cool.

I stood perfect for it and even sat down a few times because it felt so good. I was ready to just fall asleep!

I did great walking through the store
Foster mom says I need to work on the pulling and zig-zagging,
but I am trying really hard!
There's just so many smells and fun things to see!

Even had extra people stopping to pet me and they all wanted to take me home!  How about you?

XOXO,

Betty

Fonzi (Igotbigplans): 8/3 - Business in the Front, Party in the Back

Fonzi here! FoMa says I'm a tall, handsome redhead,  and I have to agree with her! Check out my eyeliner and ever so expressive eyebrows!

She says I'm extra cute because I have a striped tail. She calls it my tiger tail. I think it gives me a little extra pizazz.

I  look handsome coming and going,  if I do say so myself.  And I do!

Hugs, kisses,  and greyhound leans,

Fonzi

Rusty (Rusty Nail): 8/4 - Learning and Living!

I have learned so much in retirement!

I now know that my favorite room is the kitchen and that I like lots of different food. Like peanut butter šŸ„œ, cheese šŸ§€, yogurt šŸ¦, watermelon šŸ‰, and especially bananas šŸŒ!

I also learned how to relax, like this:

And I love leisurely walks!

Most importantly, I learned to appreciate an excellent cuddle nap.

Thank you for coming to my TED talk about why Iā€™m the best boy. šŸ˜‰

šŸ¤Ž Rusty

Betty (JTs On the Beat): 8/3 - Jus' Chillin'

 Hello again!

Lots of things still going on here.

Did I tell you they have their own big bowl of water here?

They said no drinking it though!

But, they just jump right in ... not me, I'm going to pass on that for now.
But who knows, maybe one day I will want to get all wet!

And the best part of today was learning how to chill in this beautiful weather.

Retirement is tough but I got this!

XOXO,

Betty

Tuc (Oh Ya Tucker): 8/2 - Bed Fails

My butt needed the bed more than my body.

Betty (JTs On the Beat): 8/2 - Retirement is Here!

Okay - retirement started 9 days ago and it's been amazing!

I loved the car ride home - it was so relaxing that I was settled before we even the driveway.

I was kinda tired from the long trip too so it was greyt to snooze the whole way home.

We did stop at a place that gave you food from a window so I got up to see that.
(It wasn't kind of food though.)

It was neat seeing that though and I was very curious!

Then we got to my foster place, I got to meet all kinds of friends -
ones with 4-legs, 3-legs and 2-legs!
So cool!

I do have lots more to tell you but I'll save that for another day :)

For now, I'll keep an eye out for other fun things that are happening around here!
Hope you have fun things too!

XOXO,
Betty
