MJT Mack Attack - aka- "Rambo" 8/8/18

Rambo came in on Saturday from West Virginia.  He is a big strapping black beauty of a dog with a personality to match.  Sweet, affectionate, and willing to please he's going to be a great addition to just about any family.

His career ended after he fractured his hock bone. It was casted and the cast has been removed and the hock is healing.  He is rebuilding his strength in that leg while the injury calcifies.  He's already had one swim therapy session and will continue those until he finds his forever family.

Rambo is both cat and small dog safe.  He loves all people and will happily lean if for extra petting.  If you are looking to add a snuggle bug to your family this stunning boy is for you.

Thought I'd leave you with a few photos of his first few days with us.

Didn't know what doggy beds where and has since found out about their comfy goodness.

Totally chill with the resident cats. Always use muzzles during initial meeting and encounters.

Walking to swim therapy and working my muscles in the pool.  He didn't like it at first but quickly caught on and did great.

Myth See All: 8/7/18 - Brave New World

Hi everyone! My name is Myth. Nope I didn't pick it. It was given to me and I just work with it.  I made the move into retired life on Saturday. I traveled with 9 other pups from WV to MD to meet some really nice GEGR folks. They told me that if I let them spruce me up a bit they'll help me find a furever home. I've heard stories about those furever homes and they sound wonderful.
It seems after all that bathing, ear cleaning and nail trimming; you don't go right to that home. You have to stop off at a foster home first. They said it's where we learn home training.

Well me and my friend Einstein traveled to VA to our foster home. There's already two other greyhounds living there and foster mom said we should just sort of learn from them.  I'm a quick study. I've learned which crate is mine and I know that good food and sometimes treats show up there. I know all my business goes outside. No accidents for this girl. I'm learning to be patient when it's time to leave the crate.

Foster mom keeps talking about good manners. I'm not sure what that means but I think it means I have to be nice to everyone.  She doesn't like for me to jump on her when she comes home but I'm so excited to see her or anyone else for that matter. If I just do my happy dance on the floor I get treats and I can live with that. So I happy dance at the back door when it's time to go out. Treats!  I happy dance on the back patio cus my feet are wet and foster mom likes her clothes nice and dry. Treats! Told you I was a quick study.

Ok foster mom has to go to work and she says it's kennel time. I gotta run cus, well, Treats!!!

See ya later.

Artex Oyster: 8/7/18 - Taking it in Stride

Hi everybody!

My name is Oyster and I'm the sweetest boy ever! I have the cutest little "bat ears" that point straight up when I hear something; and the biggest soulful brown eyes. So far my favorite thing about retirement is snuggling with some cozy blankets and peanut butter! My foster family has 2 tiny humans in it as well. They love me and I think they're pretty awesome too.

I've been learning all sorts of new things like how to wait patiently when asked and working on alone time. I LOVE to eat, so I'm really enjoying having food as a reward for good behavior. I am also a little shadow. Wherever you go, I'll be right behind you. I don't like to miss out on anything you're doing. I even love to watch tv! My leash manners are great and I've been doing really well letting my foster mom know when I need to go outside to go potty.

As you may have seen on the GEGR website, I am not yet available for adoption. My veterinarian has determined I'm something called heartworm positive. This means I have an infection of icky worms in my bloodstream, and possibly my heart, that could make me very sick if left untreated.  I'm so grateful the folks at GEGR, my foster family, and my veterinarian are doing everything they can to make me all better again. I'm strong and I know even though it's a long road, I can do it!  Stay tuned for more updates on my journey through my treatment and into this awesome new thing called retirement.

Blankets are THE best!

Mac's Essie: 8/6/18 - All in the Family

Hello friends,

I have had a busy couple of days.  I traveled from West Virginia to southern Maryland and arrived late Saturday afternoon, then had myself a spa treatment, and then another road trip several hours south to Virginia.

I'm living with my foster mom and my foster siblings (4 greyhounds and a miniature schnauzer), and they are teaching me the ropes of retired life.

I found out some exciting news.  My foster sister and I are related; we have the same dad!  It's pretty cool having family here to teach me all about living the retired life.  Here's a picture of me and my foster sister together.  We don't look too much alike, but foster mom says if I'm anything like her,  my forever family is in for a treat!

There may/may not have been peanut butter involved in the taking of these photos

I like to hang out in my crate quite a bit, but I'm starting to venture out onto the dog beds.  They are pretty comfy!

I also have had started to have some fun in the toy box!

Well that's all for now.  I'll check in soon and let you know all the things I'm learning.

Until later,

Essie

Susie - Dreaming of My Own Family - 6/22/18

Dog lying sideways on a bed on her back
Bed-failing like a pro
Hi all:

Susie here! Just checking in to tell you about my day. I'm getting really good at beds—this is how they work, right? Anyway, I'm hard at work now dreaming of what my perfect family will look like. Is it yours? If you like any of walking, cuddling, or playing with toys, I might be a greyt fit.

Talk soon,
Susie

Ramon: 6/22 - little dogs and bed time

FM said that since I'm fresh off the track, it would be a good thing for me to visit with other pups.  One of my visitors was Chihuahua named Princess.

We checked each other out, and then I found something else to do.

I'm currently living with a little dog named Zoey.  She took my comforter the other night so I had to lay beside her.  Once I was settled, she moved.

FM has this big mirror in her bedroom.  When I finally discovered it, I kept checking myself out.  There may or may not be nose prints on the mirror to prove it.

The first night with FM, I wasn't sure about the dog beds so I made my own bed beside her on the throw pillows.  The next night FM moved a bed over beside her, and I've been sleeping there every night.

Okay so maybe I have a thing for my FM.  I only like sleeping near her.  😊

Mac's Cardinal - 6/20/18 Dreaming

Foma told me that I graduated! She said I didn't have to sleep in the crate at night any more because I sleep all night and I don't have accidents in there.  I got to come upstairs with all the other pups. Those stairs are scary but I finally did it.
I was a good girl and slept on a dog bed all night. I found a window to look out of while I waited for foma to get ready for work. I was just wondering what my forever family would be like. I hope they have nice soft dog beds and good food. I think I'd like a friend to keep me company. I hope they give me hugs and kisses every day. It's nice to dream but I hope my dream comes true.
