Tina (Spice It Up): 2/21/23 Walks

 

Went with FD (foster dad) on a walk yesterday.  I tried to pull him along until I realized that it was going to get me anywhere faster. Once I figured that out, I walked like a lady beside him with something called a slack leash.  I don't know what that was but FD was super happy about it.

Q. What is your full name?

A. Spice It Up but my foster parents call me Tina.

Q. How old are you?

A. I am almost 3 years old.  My birthday is February 25th! 

Q. What’s your height and weight?

A. Approximately 31 inches from the ground to the top of my head for my height.  I weigh about 61 pounds.

Q. What’s your occupation?

A. Retired racing dog, but I ran in 39 races before I retired.  For 2 of those races, I came in 1st place!  My very last race was January 10, 2023.

Q. What’s your income?

A. I’m retired so I rely on my good looks and sweet puppy dog eyes to keep me in dog treats, comfy beds, and regular meals.  I’m also a big foodie so I’ll happily eat whatever you have in your hand.

Q. Do you have any children?

A. No kids for me.  After I retired, I wasn't chosen to be a brood mom.

Q. Any medical issues?

A. Not a one!

Q. Do you have any tattoos?

A. I have tattoos in my ears, and I was feeling pretty special about them.  FM (foster mom) hurt my feelings though.  She said that every former racing greyhound has tattoos.  #WayToBurstMyBubbleFM #ButIAmSpecial

Q. Who are your parents?

A. Vanderworp and Odd Twilight

Q. Do you have any siblings?

A. I have 2 brothers and 3 sisters.

Q. What's your marital status?

A. Single but I don't have time for the boys.  Please don't try to match me up with anyone.  I would rather just hang out at home with my family.  

Q. What is the first thing people notice about you?

A. My sweet, adorable face and waggy tail.  I just want you to touch me and love on me.  

Q. What are your three best life skills?

A. My love of all people, quietly checking out what you’re doing when you’re moving about the house, and happily sleeping in my favorite dog bed when FM isn’t home.  

Q. What's the most important thing you're looking for in a family?

A.  I would love to have someone (or some people) to love me, spoil me, play with me, feed me, walk me, and did I mention love me? I'm all about kisses, hugs, and if you don't mind, snuggling with you.  FM won’t let me on the couch, but I think I could be easily convinced that it’s a great place to snooze and snuggle. 

Q. How do you typically spend your leisure time?

A. Sleeping, pulling out and playing with all of the toys that squeak, playing with the resident puppy, and investigating what FM is up to.  

Q. Do you have any issues with sharing?

A. I don’t have any issues with sharing!  I love to play with the whippet puppy that belongs to my foster family.  Sometimes she gets the toys, and sometimes I get them.  She runs a lot faster through the house with them though.  I just let her go be crazy and wait for her to come back.

Gaga (Poker Face): 1/3/23 Meet Gaga

Hello everyone, my name is Gaga. I'm almost two years old, and have been doing my best to figure out life as a retired racer. I really like to be outside, but I'm a bit nervous on walks. I think that will get better over time.

I'm most happy when I get to spend time in the house getting love and attention. My foster family keep saying I am a "cuddle bug". 

I am great with kids and other dogs. I really just want to get along and be part of the pack.

I love my food, and one of my favorite things to do after breakfast is have some time in the yard followed by a big nap. 

But rest assured, I'll be ready for lots of love and attention as soon as I wake up!

My foster parents say I am a quick learner - although I have a cheeky side to me. Apparently I don't need to help out with the dishwasher, can't jump on the sofa, and need to have my muddy paws cleaned before coming inside. So many rules!

Jasmine (Superior Jasmine): 12/9/22 Christmas Magic

 I am Jasmine!  

If you like squeaky toys, long walks, catching stuff and happy energetic hounds then you are the people for me! You may have seen me here before, but I am once again in search of my forever home. 

 I have a lot of energy and love playing with my humans!    Foster mom says that I am wicked smart and has given me some puzzle toys to figure out!  I am really good at them, but can someone please help me figure out how to get that ball out of the crate?!! 

I have pretty good manners!  I know all about living in a house, walking on a leash, waiting my turn at dinner time and going potty outside!  Here is me asking for a walk!  I LOVE walks!

I like to be busy, but I also know how to chill!  Ummmm....there aint nothin better than a good bone to chew on when hanging out!!!!

I saw my very first Christmas tree this week!  I love discovering things!!! Just imagine all of the wonderful things we can discover together!!!  

This Christmas I am hoping for a family that can love the beauty, energy and excitement that can only be described as Jasmine!

Dorie (Volando Olvera): 8/30/22 - Roaching Queen and Toys

 Hi everybody! It's me, Dorie, here again with more fun stuff about me. Have you ever seen a greyhound "roach" before? Well, let me bark, I'm pretty awesome at it!

First though, a picture of my pretty self just to remind you what a cutie pie puppy I am...

Dorie (Volando Olvera): 8/22/22 Dorie Needs a Hand

 Hi everyone! It's me, Dorie, again - and today I need your help. I need some help finding my forever family. I just know they're out there somewhere! So I'm going to take just a minute to remind you of a few of my finer points, and then tell you about my simple needs. And then? I need you to take a long look in your heart and your family and see if there's room for me in your family!

Okay, first up? Just a quick reminder of all the good stuff.

Here's a quick pic of me cooling off after a warm walk outside.

First off, I'm a super sweet pupper with my people (which is why I think you should become my people). I'm a cutie pie, know all my obedience skills, get along well with other medium and large dogs and do great with other greyhounds. You can find all my previous blog posts HERE which describe all this in greater detail.

So Dorie, you ask, if you're so perfect, why haven't you been adopted? Well, I have a bad relationship with small animals: small dogs, cats, bunnies, foxes, etc... and this makes me a little hard to walk, because I bark at those things and sometimes lunge toward them. So I need a fenced yard where I can just have my own space without having to bother with all the little critters!

Oh, did I mention that I love TOYS?

Dorie (Volando Olvera): 6/20/22 - Report Card!

 Well hello there! It's me, Dorie, with another fun post about my cute self. I heard you might have been wondering a little more about me? Not a problem. I continue to polish up my skills here at Uncle Chris's house - and I'm not shy to say my grades are pretty darned good (with one teeny-tiny exception).

I am an *Excellent* sitter!

Obedience: A+ 

I am fantastic at Sit, Down, and Stay. I'm even starting to get the idea of Wait! When it's time for meals, or treats, or you just need me to pay attention for a moment or two? This is it. Did you see the picture above? Butt planted firmly on the floor, thank you very much! And here's one of me doing Down, which is what we do before my dish gets set down in the feeding stand...

And see how attentive I am? Good Down, Dorie!

Attachment to my People: A+

I love my people - right now Uncle Chris and Auntie Kate are my people (along with some friends who visit pretty often) - but I'm waiting patiently for my Forever People! I'm a leaner for love, and I love to curl up and just be close to you. This picture should help explain - that's me lying at Auntie Kate's feet by her chair. She shares a corner of her blankie with me and I snooze at her feet.

I might love the blankie a little, too!

Alone Training: A

I do really good all by myself in my crate when necessary. I get a frozen peanut-butter stuffed Kong when I go in the crate and I do fine for several hours.

Office Mate: A+++

This is one of my greatest skills. I have my own bed in Auntie Kate's office and I roach out all day long to show support while she is in video meetings. Think of how much you would like to look over from your meeting or horrible conference call and see this beside you...

No problem, we'll have those reports out by close of business today!

Eating, Sleeping, Potty, Etc: A

Just add a little water to my kibble to keep me from gobbling and I'm good. I sleep all night in the crate like a good girl. I stick to a regular schedule with my potties and have never had a single problem. This stuff is all easy 😀.

Small Animals: D-

This is the only thing keeping me from being the greyhound valedictorian and giving that awesome speech at graduation. Small dogs, cats, bunnies, foxes, and who knows what other small animals are just not my friends. I'm just never going to be friends with that 5lb teacup poodle who lives two doors down.

So that's how I'm doing here at Uncle Chris's house! Pretty darned good, overall, I think!

FGF Nighthorse (Horse): 6/17/22 - Moar Snugs, Plz

 Hello - Horse here! If that sounds like a silly name for a dog, I would just like to point out that I am indeed larger than some Miniature Horses, and I think we can all agree to drop the Miniature and just acknowledge that I am the size of a horse. 

My personality certainly isn't miniature! I am a big fan of FoMo and follow her around the house to keep an eye on her. (FoMo would like to point out that the reason this post is so tardy is that I don't ever let her hands be idle. If she's not working, she should probably be petting me. I can't help that I'm good looking!) 

What do you mean, asleep on the job??

Just came to check on why she wasn't petting me.

My retirement is off to a great start. I've been able to hang out with FoSis and FoBro. I thought he was a fuzzy baby greyhound at first, but I don't quite think that's right. Seems like a Good Boy, and he doesn't mind when I take squeaky toys from his bed. I mean, how many can he squeak at once, right?

We make a good team, checking the yard for furry intruders. I like to sniff around, and then I just follow FoMo around the yard so that she can't forget about me or skip petting me. Adequate lovins are an important part of a balanced diet!

Good scritches after a hard day's work!

We hang out in the yard, in the house, and we go for walks. Last night we bumped into a herd of deer. Meh. I was busy thinking about the rabbits we'd just passed. FoMo said I'd already had dinner, though. Really, I don't care what we're doing, as long as I get to be the closest to FoMo.

FoMo says I am a big sweet boy. I've learned about stairs, hard floors, and that if I'm a very good boy, I get mini milk bones. I like good naps (except for when FoMo is in meetings), breakfast, dinner, squeaky toys, treats, checking for squirrels, being near FoMo, and exploring and leaving my mark on the world. I don't like not chasing rabbits, being farthest from FoMo, and the Dremel. But FoMo has been working with me on that, and she's right, it hasn't hurt me yet. 

If you're trying to find somedoggo who looks at you like this, get you a Horse!

Jasmine (Superior Jasmine): 6/14/22 Lovin Living the Good Life!

 This retirement this is awesome!  I am happy playing at home or going for a long walk to check things out!  We go for a lot of walks and foster mom says that I have been doing a great job at learning to greet other walkers with less exuberance! Here are a couple of my favorite shots from my last walk!

Sneaker (CET Sweet Sneakr): 8/07/22 Sweet Retirement!

Hi, I'm Sneaker, and I’m trying out this new retirement thing. It’s pretty cool so far! I’ve got some foster brothers, and one even looks like me!

My foster Mom says I'm a little bit shy, and I need some time to warm up, but when I do, I'm a sweet love bug!

Jasmine (Superior Jasmine): 6/11/22 Fun and Photos!

Foster Mom and I have been touring the county looking for great spots to get a few cheesecake shots so you can see how adorable I am!  This is me at Leonardtown Wharf!  It was a really hot day as you can see by my tongue extension, but I love being by the water!

I like getting really close when we are taking photos! I think she got my best side!

Ahhhhh.....finally some shade!

Sometimes I am shy when having my picture taken...like in this shot.

But at the end of the day, I love to snuggle in bed with my treasure trove!

Jasmine (Superior Jasmine) 8 June 22 Introductions

HI!  I am Jasmine!  I am also known as Jazz, Jazzy and sweet baby girl! I am smart, loving, playful and take correction well!  Don't believe me?  Ask my foster mom!

Do you like balls and things that squeak?  Then I could be the girl for you!  I LOVE squeaking all the toys, fetching balls and going for walks!!! I even bring the ball to foster mom every once in a while, when I want to play.  I also like to explore new things!  This is me checking out the backyard from our deck with my foster sister!

But I also know how to find just the right spot to chill after a long walk!

Foster mom says that I am a smart cookie (mmmm.....cookies...) and that I learn fast!  I have already learned how to go up and down the stairs, navigate through a doggie door and go potty outside!    I also walk on the leash really well with and without my foster sisters!  This is another shot of me at the beach! I loved exploring all the new scents!

After all this learnin I am ready for a good nights sleep!

Dorie (Volando Olvera): 5/26/22 - Picnic Fun!

 Oh. My. Gosh. I did something so much fun this past weekend? I just have to tell you about it!

I went to the Reunion Picnic for Greyt Expectations!

First? I laid down on my blankie under the shade tent. And I napped. Then? I went down to the water by the river (all fenced in) and crashed in the water for a while to cool off and enjoy the water. Then, I went back to my blankie and napped some more. There were other dogs running all over the place like crazy pups (all fenced). I got up and ran like 50 feet - then - you guessed it - went and napped some more.

We all had a great time - you should have seen all the doggies having a great time running around! Thanks to absolutely everyone who made it such a fun day 😀
