Dutch Jubilee (aka Jem) 8/20 - Dear Jem Fans

Dear Jem Fans,

I wanted to take a few minutes to say thanks for stopping by and checking her out.  I am her foster mom and I'd like to support everything posted about her so far.  She has been an absolute pleasure to have around already.  I am not encountering anything but pure happiness from this little girl.  Here's what we've seen so far:

  • There were no hesitating long introductions to my pack - she just blended right in.
  • Has shown absolutely no interest towards our cats and they haven't hissed at her once (which usually they need to do to put fosters in their place and let them know who rules our house).
  • She goes right outside and does her business right away.  And then she's been exploring the rest of the yard on her own but comes right back when called.
  • She has just enough confidence to go out and about but even more respect when called back.
  • She's really picked up quickly on the steps.  She does still skip a couple at the end so we are showing her how to slow down a bit and she's catching on very quickly.  (I'll get a video to pass along)
  • The best part about her so far is her sincere and gentle ways with my 11yr old son.  She just likes being close to him and leaning into him.  When he's around, that's her person.  She's good with being anyone's person, especially when scratches are being given (she's got the "greyhound lean" down perfectly); but, if having to chose, she goes for the little guy.
  • She has a good appetite but has a very polite and dainty way about eating.
  • We haven't heard her vocalize yet, so pretty sure she'll be a quiet girl.
  • She's really taken to one of the dog beds so she's been sleeping there at night without any issues.
  • She sleeps the entire night and until we all get up! (Apparently she didn't come with the 5am "track time" wake up call)
  • She's just always so content and happy - her little smooth tail wagging is so adorable.
Things that I will be trying next are:
  • Leash walking (it's just been so hot that even I'm miserable being outside too long so I've been pushing that off)
  • Crate stays - she's been so good outside of the crate (wearing her track muzzle of course while we're sleeping or away) that I haven't felt the need to crate her at all.  There's just something very trusting about her.  (My own hounds are another story - lol!)
I'll try to update again in a few days but keep an eye out for her input ... it's more fun than mine ;)

Best,
Foster Mom
