Howie 11/8 - Meetin' and Greetin'

Howie is doing wonderful in foster care.  He continues to learn about all things "retired".  By far his most favorite activity is going for a short walk.  He loves to watch the squirrels and chickens (he might like to eat the chickens) and he's always on the lookout for a human to meet.  Howie has not met a single person he hasn't loved.  He loves meeting people and socializing.

We're still working on a few things he needs to learn.  While he still will not jump into the back of the Suburban he will now put his front paws on the bumper and I just lift his fanny in.  He'll get it, one day it'll all click and he'll jump right in on his own.  We're also still working on his leash skills.  He is so excited to go for a walk that he pulls just a bit for about the first 5 minutes.  If I stop walking when he starts pulling he now knows to come right back to me and we start walking again.  Usually by the time we get to the end of the driveway he's got a nice pace going without pulling on the leash...unless he sees one of those pesky humans, then he's all for getting over to them for some petting! (He's a ham).  He also takes treats from the hand very gently.

Howie is looking for a home who will understand he's a big boy and takes up some space.  He crates well and loves, LOVES kids but would probably do best in a home with older kids and not toddlers.  Again, he's a big boy and we wouldn't want him accidentally knocking any kids down.   He's very sweet and he's looking for an affectionate home who will enjoy petting him and rubbing his belly.  While he isn't allowed on the furniture in foster care I can see where he would probably love being cuddled up to his human on the couch watching TV.
